A 25 year old woman was interviewed by the New York Times about her experience working as a prostitute in Afghanistan. The woman stated that she learned the business from her friends and decided to work as a prostitute in order to survive. She started working as a prostitute after her husband lost his job and with a family of 5 to feed, and woman not having many employment opportunities available, she turned to prostitution without her husbands knowledge.
The women charge between $30 to $60 for their services and cater to middle-class men in the country. They do not accept strangers as customers. The customer calls a contact number, who then arranges the act to take place either at the customer’s home or the woman’s home.
