Police officers estimate that there are up to 2,000 women from foreign countries working as prostitutes in Delhi. Many of the women are from Commonwealth of Independent States countries and most are believed to have been victims of human trafficking.
Prostitution in Delhi creates a high demand for foreign prostitutes. Due to the demand, women from former Soviet Republic countries working as prostitutes are sold for three to four times higher than Indian prostitutes, according to media reports.
On average, pimps controlling the foreign women charge between $13.50 to $16.80 (800 to 1,000 Indian Rupees) for a sexual interaction. For services during the evening, the price increases to $421 to $500 (25,000 to 30,000 Rupees). Weekend getaways and travel escorts costs up to $1687 (100,000 Rupees).
