Number of Untaxed Cigarettes Smoked in Germany in 2010

In 2010, an estimated 22 billion untaxed cigarettes were smoked in Germany.

The losses to cigarette smuggling was in line with previous estimates of 4 billion euros.

In Berlin, up to 40 percent of all cigarettes smoked in the city were smuggled through the black market. In border towns near Poland, the cigarette smuggling rate increases to 60 percent.
