There are at least 800,000 people in Morocco who make a living cultivating illegal marijuana in the country.
The amount of money generated by the illegal marijuana crop in Morocco is estimated to be worth $10 Billion, or 10 percent of the country’s GDP.
In 2003, there were 137,000 hectares of cannabis planted around the country. In 2010, the amount of hectares devoted to marijuana cultivation decreased to 47,000.
One hectare can yield between 5 to 6 kilograms of cannabis resin per year.
