Marijuana Abuse in the United States

According to a report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 6.4 percent of Americans over the age of 12 smoked marijuana within the past month in 2008 and 2009, up form 6 percent in the previous year. 7 percent of teenagers smoked marijuana in the United States.

The top ten states that had the highest use of marijuana were Alaska, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont.  All states, with the exception of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, allow medical marijuana.
