The organization Ruhama reported in 2011 that there are an estimated 1,000 women and girls working in the sex trade across the Republic of Ireland.
In 2010, there was a 9 percent increase in the number of women working as street prostitutes.
The organization helped 204 women who were victims of human trafficking and prostitution in 2010, a 4 percent increase from the previous year. The women served by the organization came from 31 countries.
